I wanted to keep some kind of journal about my life living in England, and I figured what better way to do that, while also keeping my friends and family up to date, than with a blog. So here it is - enjoy; I know I am!

Four Weeks of Fun

I just realised a few days ago that it's been awhile since I last blogged.  Things have just been so busy that I can't seem to find time to do every day, normal tasks (like cleaning the house...oops*).
The first week I was back after Christmas I still felt awful - I was sick the entire Christmas holiday at home, mostly the last few days.  Needless to say the flight home was not fun (or the part when my luggage came off the conveyor belt at Gatwick looking as though it had been eaten by a polar bear - excellent**).
I wanted to feel better for the weeked, since it was my birthday party on Saturday night, so I went to bed embarrassingly early every night that first week.
I felt better on the weekend (although not 100%) so I was able to enjoy my birthday celebration (but not just mine - my friend Nicole was born on the same day, so we joined parties and celebrated January 11th 1985 together).  Laura kindly had a pre-drinking gathering which was a lot of fun, and then we went out to Moons after.  It seemed as though we were only there a short time when the lights came on.  I guess it's true that time flies when you're having fun.
My birthday fell on the Tuesday of that next week, and I enjoyed a pleasant day at work and a nice curry dinner with the Spell family.  It was nice and relaxing and just what I wanted (I can't really go out on school nights anymore - I'm 26 now remember; getting old).  That week kind of went slowly, probably because we were all too excited about our approaching limo night.  Nicole and I thought it would be fun to do something extra fun for our birthday; even though we had already celebrated the weekend before, we figured, two birthdays, two weekends worth of celebration.  We booked a limo for twelve that would take us to a club in Clapham and then deliver us home afterwards.  We had a little party at our place, as that's where the limo was picking us up.  Now, not very many of you have seen the size of my house, but let me tell you that holding twelve girls in my kitchen is a tight squeeze; especially when all twelve girls are drinking mass amounts of wine.  This was, I have to say, one of the most fun nights I have had in a while.  We had a dance party in the kitchen, drank and sang as we waited for the limo.
...and waited.  And waited.
Long story short: are there any pictures posted here of us with a limo?  Or in a limo?  Or of us standing outside in the cold at a club?  Or of us IN a club?  No, and there's a reason.  The limo was an hour and a half late, broke down fives blocks away from my house, wouldn't give us our money back, and Britny and I stumbled home completely inebriated, made Kraft Dinner and were in bed by midnight.  I wish I could say this whole catastrophe was looked back on with a laugh and a smile, but no.  We still do not have our money back from the limo company and it doesn't seem as though it's going to be sorted any time soon.  So, that was my big birthday bash.  Awesome.
That week at work I finally started to feel 100% back to health.  Thank god.  Three weeks is a bit much, really.  And equally exciting is that, at this point, the work weeks are just flying by.  February break is closer than we think and I can't wait!
Last weekend Britny and I were finally able to have our Christmas.  We bought each other tickets to see Legally Blonde before Christmas, but unfortunately the night we were supposed to go landed in those few days that everything was shut down because of about a foot of snow.  We had to cancel our tickets but were luckily allowed to re-book for another night.
We went to London around 4pm and met Sarah and Simon for Korean dinner.  It really had been too long.  Yum!  Britny and I then went to enjoy the show.  Ennjooooyy.  Not sure that is the best word to describe Legally Blonde.  I mean, it was entertaining, sure.  It was fun, absolutely.  However, I'm not sure I enjoyed it whatsoever.  I think I just had such high expectations because of the film; I didn't like any of the changes they made to the story that I know and love.  That was a pretty big deal for me, even though I liked mostly the entire cast.  Whatever though - it was a laugh and Britny and I had a good night.
The past week at work I went and saw the school production, a pantomime of Cinderella.  It was actually fantastic!  The kids were hilarious and we really enjoyed ourselves.
That pretty much sums up the near month since I've been back in the UK.  Lots of planning for trips and other fun things to do (London Dungeons and The Wizard of Oz musical are next on the list); simply enjoying my last six months across the pond.
* You will be pleased to know that, before I started typing up this post, I cleaned my house.
** I received a cheque in the mail yesterday for my luggage - £62.00.
